Micheal Scholis investigates human interactions with environments, specifically between what we consider ‘nature’ and the ephemeral popular institutions in contemporary Western life.

Raised on the central coast of California in a predominantly white, affluent beach town, photography became a means to reimagine reality. With a B.A. in photojournalism from Howard University, Scholis’ art practice triangulates areas of immense symbolic, memetic, and cultural significance within our socio-economic fabric with specific attention to our environment.

Memory anchors Scholis’ work, allowing him to gaze into the past that we live through everyday and connect with those who will inherit a world we all walk into blind.
